Reflections on a job well done

Work with us

By Danny Sullivan

Still basking in the glory of Scotland’s magnificent victory over France in Paris last week, I found it impossible to begin this post without talking about it. After reflecting on the result, I realised it’s actually more relevant to this blog than I first thought.

Bear with me.

Scotland’s result in France was not a fluke. Au contraire – having already defeated the World Cup finalists in Scotland last year, this small country has proved a point. With the right level of hard work, commitment and strategy, they managed to achieve a result that any country could be proud of.

So it goes for technology companies in the media. Sure, everyone expects the big players to dominate the pages of the major publications in their sector, and rightly so. After all, their products are being used by virtually everyone on the planet. They are the world champions, so to speak. But there are also thousands of smaller tech companies out there, each with their own story to tell. Surely they don’t have the ability or budget to knock these big players off their front-page pedestals? Wrong.

With the right level of hard work, commitment and strategy, any small tech company with a story to tell has as good a chance as anyone to make it to page one. Yes, the big boys will continue to dominate, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t plenty of opportunities for the rest of us to grab some of that limelight.

Now I just have to hope that this small country’s strategy keeps working for three more games…
