Many times I have had such conversations (both sides of it- as journalist and as pr specialist). I have heard (and have said) &quot;Sounds interesting. Let me get back to you if it&#039;s a go). Sometimes the reporter has to check with editor or has another story assigned that has higher priority.
Bummer, yes, but end of story? No.
I&#039;ve even had the same media call me back later and say &quot;can you still put me in touch with so and so? I want to do a story that&#039;s somewhat related&quot;.
Also, as a journalist I always tried to be sensitive to those who called (unless they pushed and badgered), letting them know I wasn&#039;t able to make a decision at the time.
So, yes, please don&#039;t give up!!!!!!
